Following the rapid growth of the university and an increase in student numbers, the existing Student Union building on the St. Johns campus was in need of updating and expansion. Lett + Sweetland Architects worked closely with main contractor Speller Metcalfe, on this successful D&B contract,  completely redesigning and reconfiguring the internal spaces of the existing building in just 24 weeks.

The contemporary design saw the original bar and seating area completely replaced, and a new cafeteria area was added to allow for increased student numbers using the building during the daytime. A night club was also incorporated into the design, along with updated toilets and the improved back of house areas.
