CONVERSION OF BARNS INTO LIVING ACCOMMODATION, EVESBATCH HEREFORDSHIRE
Client: Mr & Mrs Blackman
Completed:1990
Contractor: Caldicotts, Tenbury
Contract Value: £500,000
Description:
Conversion of a large farm building complex into a single dwelling in two phases.
The design aims to maximise spectacular views to the south with balconies and a fully-glazed wall to the kitchen. Intrusion of services and partitions minimised to retain large clear internal spaces characteristic of these buildings. Central heating is a low temperature water under-floor system, supplemented by log burning stoves in the living areas.
The contract was carried out in two phases using a locally based, traditional contractor, and involved significant repair and restoration of original oak timber framing together with purpose-made joinery.
Extensive external works included a landscaped central courtyard together with south facing terraces, retaining walls and steps in reclaimed brick and stone.
Undertaken as directors of Glazzard Architects Co-operative.
